An access review is a periodic check of who belongs to a Microsoft group and whether they still need access. Microsoft group is a set of people connected to shared resources. Depending on the review, it may be a Microsoft Teams/SharePoint group, or a group that provides access to an application.

As the group owner, you decide who should keep access based on their current responsibilities or who is still on your team.

How will I receive it?

You’ll receive an automated email from Microsoft with the group name, review deadline, and a Start review link.

You can also go to myaccess.microsoft.com, sign in with your work account, and select Review now to see your assigned reviews.

What do I need to do?

1. Open your assigned review. Confirm the group name and due date.

2. Review each member. Decide whether they still need access to the group.

  • Approve: The person still needs access.

  • Deny: The person no longer needs access.

3. Submit your decisions. Select the member or members, choose Approve or Deny, enter a reason if prompted, and select Submit.

4. Check that all members have a decision before the deadline.
