Purpose: This document explains how to utilize the Similarity Report in Turnitin.

For steps on setting up an assignment with Turnitin, please follow these instructions: Setting up an assignment with Turnitin

For information regarding Turnitin's AI detection, please see the following document: How do I use Turnitin's AI detector?

Turnitin's Similarity Report checks the student's submission against Turnitin's database and highlights any text similar to a source. The database includes web pages, journals and publications, as well as papers that other students have submitted to Turnitin.

Accessing the Similarity Report

Select the student's submission to open the Similarity Report.

In the sidebar, Turnitin will flag any significant items for review, and indicate any text matching information in Turnitin's database:

Any matching text can be viewed by the professor, allowing them to see if the student actually committed plagiarism, or if the similarities are just due to sources or writing style.

Filters and Settings

Selecting Filters and Settings allows the professor to exclude certian portions of the document from the similarity score.
