Purpose: This document explains how to assign a student's final course grade manually instead of using the grade calculated by Canvas.



Enable the Override Column: 


1. Open your course and select Grades:



2. Select the Settings icon:

3. Under Advanced, check Allow Final Grade Override:

4. Click Apply Settings:

Overriding a student's final grade: 


1. In the Gradebook, scroll to the far-right Override column:

2. Select the appropriate student and enter either:

a) A percentage (recommended if you need an exact final grade) 
b) A letter grade

Note:

  • If you enter a letter grade, Canvas assigns the lowest percentage for that grade in your course grading scheme. For example, entering B+ may record 86% if B+ is defined as 86–89%.
