Microsoft Whiteboard allows for
touch-screen drawing as a
substitute for a regular whiteboard or
drawing with a document
camera.
There are multiple ways to go about
sharing live drawings with the
audience of a virtual class.
This will walk through doing so with
Microsoft
Teams and Microsoft Whiteboard. If you have questions about other methods,
feel free to reach out and let us know. We are happy to help.
Requirements
- A device to run the class from—like a
laptop or
Desktop computer
- A device with touchscreen
capabilities, like an
iPad, or a Microsoft Surface
tablet.
- Note: There is currently no application for macOS. Anyone using a mac will need to utilize the web version or find an alternate solution.
- Microsoft Teams application (Get Microsoft Teams) on the computer running the class.Note: You can utilize Zoom, or other applications for this as well, as long as you are able to share your screen with that program.
Instructions for Sharing
Start a Meeting/Class
- Open Microsoft Teams
- Click the Calendar button
on
the left-hand side of
the screen
- Click Meet Now
- If you are recording the lecture,
it
is best to
start it now to ensure everything
is
captured. The video can be trimmed
later.
Share Microsoft Whiteboard
- On your computer open Microsoft
Whiteboard and
create a new whiteboard or select
an
existing one.
- Switch back to Microsoft
Teams by clicking the
Teams
icon in the taskbar. Do not
minimize
Whiteboard.
- In the class you started in Teams, hover over the bottom bar and select Share.
- Do not select the item “Microsoft Whiteboard” on the far right under the “Whiteboard” section. Rather, select the Microsoft Whiteboard application window that is under the Window section on the left.
- You should now be sharing whiteboard to your audience. A red border around your Whiteboard application indicates that it is being shared to the class.
Using the Whiteboard
If you are using a second device to
draw, follow these
steps. If you are running the
meeting
from a touchscreen device, you can
skip
this section and use that device
to
draw instead.
- On your touchscreen device, open
the Microsoft
Whiteboard
application
- Open the same whiteboard that is
being
used on
the desktop or laptop that is
running
the class.
- Start drawing. You should see it
drawing simultaneously
on your desktop or laptop. This
will
appear to the audience at the same
time—instantaneously.
This will appear in the recording
as
well.
Notes
If you want to collaborate with
students or
invite them to try
drawing something, you can also invite
them to the whiteboard.
